 |
| ARTIST BIO |
Mary Tomás is an artist
who has worked for over 35 years in many mediums, from
watercolor, pastels, pen and ink, acrylics and oils. She
is a promoter of the arts especially when it comes to
children and has worked in many capacities with arts organizations
in the Dallas and Duncanville area. After graduating from
The Art Institute of Pittsburgh with an Associates Arts
Degree she has worked for area newspapers, TV news programs,
textile companies and advertising agencies as a designer
and illustrator. For over twenty years she has co-owned
with her husband, ALMA GRAPHICS, a graphic design studio
serving their clients with design and illustration for
use on the web and printed pieces.
Since 1998 she has been developing M FINE ART, where she
is devoted to creating the art that comes from deep within.
Holding, organizing and promoting six shows a year from
her studio, giving back to the community through volunteer
arts programs, being politically active for the arts,
teaching workshops, or holding special classes are all
aspects of this business. After spending most of her art
career working in watercolor and pen and ink, she took
a leap of faith and delved into the beautiful
and challenging world of oils and has been intrigued with
the endless possibilities of the medium ever since.
Mary actively participates in programs offered at The
DALLAS MUSEUM of ART, The MAC, THE CONTEMPORARY, and The
ARTISTS ASSOCIATION of ST. JOHNS, USVI arts
organizations. She served for 6 years as a Board Member
of YOUNG AUDIENCES of Greater Dallas, responsible for
providing schools with quality arts programs and promoting
the ARTS IN EDUCATION. Served 8 years as the ARTS COORDINATOR
for the Duncanville PTA Board, where the duties were promoting
and organizing all Duncanville schools to participate
in the city, state, and national REFLECTIONS
arts competition, which culminated into a city wide Awards
Night Program, complete with music, awards and entertainment.
Originally from San Francisco, California, she has also
lived in Arizona, Pennsylvania, and Texas. Mary has been
interested in art since her pre-school days first encounter
with clay and finger paint and has enjoyed all aspects
of the creative process greatly encouraged by members
of her vividly creative family. Married for 25 years to
her husband, whom she met in art school, they have a daughter
currently in college in North Carolina, and have lived
in the Dallas metroplex for over 25 years. |
